JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Procurement Manager is responsible for sourcing and purchasing 
complex components, assemblies, finished goods, and services for 
manufacturing support. This role represents the procurement 
organization to the cross-functional platform team(s).  They are 
accountable for maintaining compliance with company procedures and 
industry regulations. The ideal candidate for this position will be 
highly motivated to grow within the organization in the future,

able to continuously improve service levels to all customers.

This individual will be responsible for procurement personnel who 
are sourcing, tracking, and expediting orders to meet customer 
demands and production timelines.  The Procurement Manager will 
help maintain current best practices and lead the development of 
new processes within the department and across the Vernon Hills, 
Wurmlingen, and Warwick Sites to find greater efficiencies and ways 
of working. This position will act as a procurement lead for both 
supplier-facing projects and internal materials/procurement related 
programs.  The ideal candidate will drive key procurement related 
metrics such as eliminating supplier related backorders, 
identifying/executing opportunities for PPV, negotiating and 
implementing supply agreements, and modifying/right-sizing supply 
base.

Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities:

Evaluating current and potential suppliers based on capabilities, 
costs, expertise, and other strategic factors
Sourcing complex/custom components and subassemblies for use in new 
and legacy medical device products
Act as supplier relationship owner in key strategic supply 
relationships
Identify, analyze, and drive major cost improvement projects at 
both the division and manufacturing plant levels
Represent materials/sourcing on corporate and platform level 
projects across BD Surgery
Collaborate with various department representatives including 
sales, marketing, new business development, finance, global 
procurement, and R&D
Lead cross functional teams on projects to generate formal 
RFP/RFQs, Make vs. Buy analyses, supplier changes, risk mitigation 
strategies, and manufacturing project support
Lead efforts to negotiate and implement strategic supply 
agreements, capital agreements, and development agreements where 
needed
Identify, scope, and lead cost improvement projects at division and 
other strategic facilities
Represent department as needed in Sarbanes-Oxley, FDA, internal, 
and ISO Audits
Support other critical business efforts as required
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s degree in related field
MBA a plus
6-8+ years experience in Strategic Sourcing, Purchasing, and/or 
Operations
Experience in Medical Device, Medical Supply, or Pharmaceutical 
Industry preferred
Experience managing a professional team preferred
Must possess leadership qualities as well as ability to influence 
stakeholders
Experience negotiating complex supply and development agreements 
required
Strong analytical and organizational skills
The ability to work effectively and to implement solutions on a 
strict timeline in a cross functional team environment
Must demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and 
presentation skills
Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred (Pivot Tables, 
Macros, etc)
Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office Applications
ERP/MRP system experience required
Regular travel to Vernon Hills, IL, Warwick, RI, and Wurmlingen, 
Germany will be necessary (~50% travel)
Must be willing and able to travel between manufacturing 
facilities, division sites, and supplier sites as  needed to 
achieve business unit and functional area goals
