The company's Fuel and Motion Control Systems division, a part of our Aerospace group, is currently seeking a Lead Engineer - Software & Electronic Controls Center of Excellence to join our team. This position will be based out of our either our Grand Rapids, MI or Southfield, MI office. Position Overview: The candidate selected for the role will lead electronic controls and architecture design activities during the development of systems and sub-systems, manage requirements and compliance, develop electronic architectures, develop designs, and perform system modeling & analysis. You will lead internal design reviews and supplier reviews, provide testing and verification oversight for electronic system and motor control products at the Grand Rapids facility within the SwEC COE division of the company's industrial group. In this function you will: Develop and manage requirement specifications for controller level, board level, and components level, and associated verification specifications. Perform electronic development tasks like system architecture design/analysis and circuit design/analysis to ensure compliance of all functional, performance, and environmental requirements. Model and analyze electronic circuits and architectures using tools such as PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink. Research, recommend, innovate, architect, and evaluate new electronic technology and designs. Work with mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, test, motor, and specialty engineers to develop products. Manage assigned tasks to schedule and budget. Lead small development teams of up to 10 people Provide Technical lead roles such as customer interface, LRM SOW/Specification generation for components, material presentation for technical meetings Hands on hardware development and troubleshooting experience Prepare/review documents including cost estimates (NRE), project schedules, design and instruction specifications, operating manuals, and technical reports. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is required Minimum five (5) years of experience in design engineering with focus on electrical and/or electronic components Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Grand Rapids, MI will be considered. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or its equivalent, from an accredited institution Minimum seven (7) years of experience in design engineering The ideal candidate will have hands on domain expertise in at least three of the following areas: Electronic Architecture Development Motion control system engineering and modeling techniques. Requirements development for systems and sub-systems Power electronics design for motor drives. Sensor interface design – (i.e. Potentiometer, RVDT/LVDT excitation and demodulation, etc). Motor knowledge for brushless DC, Switched Reluctance, brushed applications, AC induction Power conversion (Active PFC topologies and design, Harmonic filtering techniques). The ideal candidate will have hands on domain experience in at least one or more of the following areas: Analog and digital electronics circuit design and development Electronics packaging design Electromechanical actuator design. Electronic load management design Electronic System fault diagnostics and reporting Serial communication experience (RS422, RS232, CAN, ARINC429) Prior experience working in a regulated industry (i.e. aerospace, automotive, medical device) Position Criteria: Working knowledge of mechanical design principles Strong product design ability (Both new product & product modification) Advanced knowledge in engineering report and specification writing In-depth knowledge of mechanics of materials, statics, and dynamics Ability to make recommendations on product designs, strongly influence product costs, and capital investments. Ability to lead technical discussions and presentations for internal and external customers, including design reviews, non-advocate reviews and technical coordination meetings. Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards.
