Provide Engineering and Architectural leadership
Drive advanced architecture discussions that incorporate Carrier Ethernet, Adaptive IP, Network 
Management, SDN/NFV/Cloud, and virtualization

Lead / support technical tasks (lab trials & product demonstrations), including written 
proposals.

(RFPs), and complex network designs. Must be able to effectively communicate solutions to 
customers.

Provide strategic direction to BusDev organizations on technology required to capture the 
business of existing and developing customers, with specific focus on IP and carrier ethernet.

Provide direction to Senior & Lead Field Service Engineers to implement medium to high 
complexity migrations of Ciena Equipment on Customer’s In-Service networks without impacting 
the services provided to the end user. This includes, but is not limited to, Channel Adds, Node 
Insertions, Traffic Migrations, and HW/SW Upgrades.

Assist in creating/validating LLDs, HLDs, Method of Procedure (MOP) and other operations 
documents.

Provide onsite and remote technical assistance during complex deployments of Ciena equipment to 
ensure that the network has been tested as per the Network Design Specifications and is 
operating correctly prior to Customer hand-off.

Prepares technical designs using manufacturer design tools for product area of focus

Ensures productive relationships with manufacturer technical peers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications (Specific to domain expertise)

Technical Degree; BS in Engineering or Computer Science or relevant experience.
Expert in architecting complex IP and Carrier Ethernet Networks
In-depth knowledge of multilayer networking systems
8+ years Data Center / Networking industry experience
Expert level knowledge, of multi-layer network architectures (IP, Ethernet, MPLS) and Core 
Routing/Switching technologies and protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, IGRP, G.8032, MPLS-TP, 802.1ag, 
Segment Routing, EVPN’s, etc.) is required
Understanding of Enterprise / Federal / DOD customer environments
Hands-on systems level understanding and an ability to learn and apply new concepts and 
technologies quickly
Understanding of backbone long-haul transport, metro DWDM, optical evolution and packet 
transport a plus
Time management skills: ability to plan, prioritize, execute & follow-up within a timely manner
Professionalism in attitude, conduct, and appearance
Ability to work within a high-performance team
Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
Required Qualifications

 Proficient at all Microsoft Office products; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and 
SharePoint
Excellent presentation skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent relationship and collaboration skills
Certifications or equivalent experience in area of focus
Ability to work independently with minimal direction resulting in an accurate solution 
architecture for the client
Able to manage multiple simultaneous work assignments
Ability to communicate with all levels, including executive levels, in customers and partners, 
and bridge the gap between business users and information technology
Accustomed to working in virtual office environment
Top Secret security clearance eligible
