JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Aviation Systems Mission Networks Sector primarily supports the 
FAA by providing air traffic management systems, products and 
services that improve operations safety and efficiency.  The 
business designs, implements, and operates large, complex networks 
supporting air traffic management and mission critical 
communications; develops voice communications systems; and develops 
air traffic movement and information systems. 

The Deputy Engineering Manager will be responsible for driving 
engineers in development of needed technical and cost-control 
artifacts in support of pursuits and proposals. Duties may include 
reviewing engineering proposal inputs and overseeing cost and 
schedule performance of IRAD projects and program execution. The 
Deputy Engineering Manager will support the Engineering Manager in 
ensuring planning, staffing, and execution of engineering 
activities are  aligned with business objectives. 

Essential Functions:

Encourage and enforce application of system, software, and 
integration and test engineering best practices; fostering a 
proactive attitude and encouraging innovation,
Utilize enterprise tools to track staffing levels and aid in 
identifying requisite expertise to  meet business objectives 
through the effective planning and execution of projects, pursuits, 
and programs,
Work with Business Development, Program Management, and Business 
Unit Leadership to provide input for Strategic Planning, and 
Research and Development Planning
Stay abreast of state-of-the-art technology advancement; 
identifying disruptive or emerging technology trends for inclusion 
in IRAD, innovation, or pursuit/program ECP opportunities product 
improvements
Drive application of system, software, and integration and test 
engineering standards and best practices, and process adherence; 
defines, evolves and tailors processes as needed for new 
requirements
Support technical and cost development of proposals, with technical 
guidance, resource planning, and technical baseline reviews
Develops and conducts work programs in accordance with the 
company's policies, priorities, and budget constraints
Ability to obtain FAA Public Trust Clearance
Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in a field of Engineering with at least 15 
years of progressively challenging engineering experience or Master 
of Science in a field of Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of 
experience
Preferred Additional Skills:

Experience emphasis in systems and I&T engineering
Leading and managing project teams (including technical 
performance, schedule, cost and risk) and programs supervisor or 
management experience
Experience in the application of system, software, and test 
engineering standards and system/software lifecycle standards 
(e.g., DevOps), and experience in the application of systems 
engineering within a development organization
Demonstrated ability to deliver and sustain measurable results
Ability to coach, mentor and build relationships with staff and 
internal/external organizations
Ability to clearly and succinctly convey information and ideas, 
including strong executive communication and presentation skills
Familiarity with FAA surveillance and navigation systems and 
NextGen initiatives
