Job Summary: The Reliability Engineer reports to the Technical Services Manager. This position requires thorough knowledge and skill in the use of equipment, technologies, terminology, and practices related to steelmaking. Required Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 5 years of experience in Maintenance, Reliability, Production Management, Engineering or Operations experience Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Previous experience/education in the aluminum industry Strong knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance programs and tools associated with failure detection/ analysis Previous experience with all types of Allen-Bradley Controllers, HMI, Drives and Safety Devices Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations Job Responsibilities: Conduct analysis and perform Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures that significantly affect product quality, equipment uptime and plant capacity. Report conclusions to leadership and make recommendations for improved programs and practices intended to prevent similar failures. Monitor and track line equipment availability land operating efficiency issues and creates “pareto” type analysis to identify key equipment problems / failures / areas using internal software. Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failure and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues. Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Collaborate with Planner and Maintenance Supervisor to effectively execute planned downtime and outages. Lead Preventive and Predictive Maintenance optimization. Asset management (Critical spares, BOM, Asset Criticality, maintenance strategies, etc ) Identify critical equipment spares, material, component needs, and coordinate with maintenance, procurement, and stores to identify re-order processes/quantities to minimize downtime by using Reliability Centered Maintenance methodologies. Provides leadership and technical assistance to guide maintenance activities. Upgrades control systems to new equipment, software and standard. Modify PLC Programs and HMI as needed and backs up all Programs and setup with up-to-date versions on company drive. Troubleshoot equipment problems using the PLC. Develop troubleshooting tools to help reduce machinery downtime. Be able to teach Electricians and Mechanics in basic PLC knowledge. Works with team to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria. Defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines an asset maintenance plan that includes preventative and predictive maintenance strategies. Develops risk management plan that will anticipate reliability related and non-reliability related risks that could adversely impact plant operations. Participates in the final check-out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance tests and inspection criteria. Coordinate improvements on the engineering designs and procedures through collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and suppliers.
